Located in the Westside, this quiet, suburban community has been attracting more and more would-be residents who are drawn to its peaceful, secluded feel. Westchester is bordered by the neighborhoods of Culver City, Playa Vista, Manhattan Beach, Inglewoodand Playa del Rey. It can also be said to be the gateway to the Greater Los Angeles Area; after all, the Los Angeles International Airport or LAX is located within the vicinity. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about the noise that accompanies every departing or arriving plane; Westchester remains a calm and peaceful neighborhood where you can enjoy a good life within close proximity to the beach and other Los Angeles areas.

Brief History

The neighborhood is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Some of the schools you’ll find within the locale include Westchester Enriched Sciences Magnets, Wright Middle School, and Westport Heights Elementary School. Westchester is also home to several private educational institutions.

Neighborhoods/Real Estate Options

Westchester’s real estate market presents a variety of housing options for the prospective homebuyer. Take your pick from single-family residences with ample yard space, newly renovated traditional postwar ranch homes, and apartments.  There is a wave of upgrading homes and young families moving to the area.


Loyola Marymount University, one of biggest Roman Catholic institutions of higher learning in the West Coast, is located in Westchester. It offers degrees in Liberal Arts, Communication and Fine Arts, and Business Administration, among others. Another college, the Otis College of Art and Design, is located within the neighborhood.

If you’re an architecture buff, be sure to check out Pann’s at La Tijera Boulevard. It features one of the best examples of Googie-style architecture, which was developed by renowned architect Eldon Davis. Another point of interest within the neighborhood, the Westchester Recreation Center is a hotbed of activities.
